Bluff weighs $10,000 purchase of 1.84 acres from Southwest Heritage Foundation to expand cemetery

Town staff raised a proposal June 2 for the Town of Bluff to acquire 1.84 acres from the Southwest Heritage Foundation to add to the Bluff Cemetery. Staff member Erin Nelson said the foundation requested $10,000 in consideration and that funds exist in the FY25/26 budget to cover the purchase.
Nelson said the parcel contains approximately half of current burial sites and showed a survey and imagery indicating the portions already owned by the town and the portions proposed for acquisition. The council discussed the item but did not take a vote; Nelson said the proposal will be on a future agenda for formal action.
The council did not specify conditions or a closing timeline during the June 2 meeting. Nelson noted that a portion of the cemetery is already town-owned and that acquiring the additional acreage would consolidate ownership around the burial area. The item remained in new business with no formal motion or vote recorded.
