River Ridge CDD begins planning for storm-surge protections, seeks board and staff representatives

The River Ridge Community Development District discussed Oct. 22 an action plan to increase resilience against storm surge and climate-driven flooding.
Eric Long outlined objectives for the next five to ten years and proposed creating an advisory/review panel to coordinate efforts across local jurisdictions. Using a hypothetical topographic analysis tied to "Hurricane Milton," Mr. Long said a 10' to 12' storm surge could have inundated an estimated 45% to 55% of the community, and added that addressing the threat could require a decade of planning and multi-agency coordination.
Mr. Long asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and a staff or engineering representative to help coordinate when needed; the consensus was that Mr. Long and newly appointed Board member Keith Merrill will assist. District counsel noted that the Army Corps of Engineers has presented ideas for Collier County that could be considered if funding becomes available.
Board members agreed to authorize District Engineer Mr. Krebs to assist as necessary. No formal expenditure or procurement decision was taken at this meeting; the discussion focused on planning, intergovernmental coordination and next steps toward a resilience program.
