Pinehurst residents press River Ridge board over repeated flooding; engineer pledges inlet cleaning and written plan

Pinehurst residents pressed the River Ridge Community Development District Board of Supervisors on June 25, recounting repeated neighborhood flooding and urging immediate, high-priority action.
Resident Mike Dugan read a prepared statement saying Pinehurst has suffered "unprecedented flooding" during the June 12–14 storm and demanding that River Ridge make Pinehurst "a #1 or co-#1 priority, regardless of cost," warning that residents would "explore legal options" and arrange sandbagging ahead of forecasts if the district did not act. Resident Ed Nowak told the board the neighborhood had been repeatedly flooded since Hurricane Irma and said the redesigned system appears to have shifted problems from the Masters to Pinehurst: "The bottom line is the current redesigned system as far as we can see is flawed and unacceptable," he said, and urged a final redesign and expedited resources while hurricane season is ongoing.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs responded that he inspected the neighborhood after receiving video from Eric Long and found debris on grates and in pipes. Krebs said MRI removed leaves, flushed debris and that "perhaps some of the drains along Pinehurst have blockages above 25% that need to be cleaned." He said MRI would clean the inlets. The board then asked Krebs to provide a written plan and an estimated timeline for resolving the problem and to share it with the Board, Mr. Long and the Pinehurst NVR.
Board members did not adopt any immediate funding actions during public comment. Supervisors asked staff and the district engineer to continue investigation and to return with the requested remediation plan. The meeting record shows residents’ offers of financial support and calls for ongoing updates; the district’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 23, 2024.
The hearing of concerns and the engineer’s commitment to inlet cleaning represent the district’s immediate operational response; longer-term engineering or design changes were discussed as a desired outcome by residents but were not authorized at this meeting.
