Mendota honors Lupe Flores; council members press for leukemia awareness and community outreach

Several council members acknowledged Mayor Victor Martinez's personal battle with leukemia in that context and urged community support for awareness efforts.
Mayor Pro Tem Jose Alonso and others highlighted upcoming community events, including National Night Out on Aug. 21 and outreach related to the future Airport Park. Kevin Romero, speaking during public comment, provided an update on local high school sports and his involvement with the Recreation Commission.
The council promoted an upcoming "You Got Served an Ice Cream by a Cop" event and thanked staff for supporting community meetings and events. No formal action was taken on the leukemia awareness suggestion; councilmembers encouraged residents to attend meetings to stay informed.
