The Mendota City Council on Aug. 5 directed staff to submit an application for the Wonderful Community Grant to fund improvements at Pool Park.
Mayor Victor Martinez introduced the item and City Manager Gonzalez outlined proposed uses for grant funds including shade structures, barbecue pits, playground equipment, lighting and a security camera system. Council discussion touched on possible coordination with the Mendota Community Corporation, which may pursue its own application.
Council Member Jesus "Jesse" Mendoza moved to direct staff to submit a City application for those Pool Park amenities; Council Member Libertad "Liberty" Lopez seconded. The motion passed unanimously (4 ayes, absent: Riofrio). Staff was directed to prepare the application and return with updates on status and any implementation requirements.
The action is recorded as direction to staff to pursue grant funding; no funding was committed by vote beyond staff time and subsequent implementation actions pending grant award.
