Randolph board approves scholarships, rehiring of summer workers and event plans; BLM seeks town involvement

At its May 13 meeting the Town of Randolph board approved several community programs and event plans and addressed interagency coordination.
The board decided to award $400 each to six scholarship applicants: Tyla Pugmire, Paige Smith, Braedyn Alder, Brookell Crompton, Clare Shinkle and Dylan Wasden. The decision to award the scholarships was recorded by Clerk April Groll.
Jeff and Denise Hamburger told the board they will oversee the town 5K run again this year. The board scheduled a softball barbecue on June 25; Clerk April Groll said she will order the same food and double the lemonade.
Mayor Sim Bell reported that the Bureau of Land Management informed him it received a grant and asked that the town be involved in planning for related activities; the board did not specify the planning role at the meeting. The board also decided to rehire the three young workers who worked for the town last summer; additional applicants were noted but not hired.
On other community items, Mayor Bell suggested pursuing tourism-board funding for a fishing derby next spring; Kaleb Thomson said the State would be willing to plant fish and Clay Barker will consult Eldin for derby suggestions. Clerk April Groll raised a Zion's Bank sign proposal and asked whether the town has sign regulations; Kaleb Thomson will check with a UDOT contact (Ben) about state requirements and any concerns.
Next steps: Clerk to order food for the softball barbecue and confirm 5K oversight; Kaleb Thomson to follow up on UDOT sign regulations and to provide a map of power sources to assist Christmas-light planning.
