The West Bath Select Board on a unanimous voice vote tabled discussion of appointing a constable for town-hall responsibilities and asked staff to consult the town attorney about the scope of constable or ACO authority.
A board member moved to table the appointment to allow "her to talk to the town attorney about acco rights as far as going on properties and whatnot," and another board member seconded the motion. A subsequent vote to table was recorded as unanimous.
Board members noted the town no longer relies on a constable to post warrants and that the previous appointment had expired. One member said they had spoken to a potential appointee, who "has no need" for the role. The board agreed to place the item back on the agenda once the attorney's guidance is available.
At the meeting the board did not adopt any new duties or make an appointment; the action recorded was only to table the item pending legal advice. The item is expected to return to the select board’s agenda at its next scheduled meeting.
