The Select Board voted Dec. 18 to hire FB Environmental Associates to perform an energy audit funded by a $60,000 grant. The board learned two firms responded to the request for proposals; both initially bid $60,000, and FB Environmental Associates reduced its price to $55,000 before the board approved the contract.
Board members and committee representatives said the audit is the first required step before the town can apply for grants to replace windows, heating systems or pursue other energy-efficiency projects. The audit will include the town hall, the fire department and the school, and the firm will provide recommended measures and estimated savings to support future grant applications.
A board member asked about projected savings; staff responded that the audit will provide estimated costs and anticipated savings. The board approved the committee's recommendation and moved to contract with FB Environmental Associates.
