RSU 23 board meeting: minutes approved, budget workshop and student recognitions

At the March 16 RSU 23 board meeting in Old Orchard Beach the board accepted Feb. 16 minutes, heard a budget workshop update, reviewed committee reports and honored student achievements including a Portland Museum of Art exhibit.
The RSU 23 board met March 16 at Old Orchard Beach Town Hall and covered routine business including approval of prior minutes, committee updates, a draft 2023–24 calendar and several student recognitions.
A motion by Donna Moutsatsos, seconded by Craig Evans, accepted the Feb. 16, 2023 meeting minutes; the motion passed unanimously. The board noted there were no adjustments to the agenda, no correspondence, and no public session comments recorded for this meeting.
Superintendent John Suttie recognized the cast and crew of the high-school production "Murder on the 518," thanked staff and donors (including Cindy Eurich for donated bongos), and highlighted that student artist Joana Massanga will have her work "Mother Nature" on display at the Portland Museum of Art through April 2. Student representative Matthew Cantara-Bisson reiterated congratulations to the production team and previewed an upcoming West African drumming demonstration on March 29 at OOB High School.
Committee reports indicated the Finance and Building committees did not meet; Technology had no report; the Calendar committee presented a draft 2023–24 RSU 23 calendar; Curriculum committee members heard from Joanne Dowd about curricula initiatives and state assessment updates and were directed to the RSU website for more information. Board members praised recent athletic achievements and community involvement; Donna Moutsatsos, Barbara Roberge, Craig Evans and Dave Boudreau each offered congratulations and thanks to staff and coaches.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:32 p.m. after a motion by Craig Evans, seconded by Donna Moutsatsos, which the minutes record as approved unanimously. The minutes were prepared by Helene Stevens and signed by Superintendent John Suttie.
