RSU 23 superintendent highlights dental clinic partnership, SRO posting and facility upgrades

Superintendent John Suttie told the RSU 23 Board on Feb. 16 that Jameson School preregistration for pre-K is open and that district staff continue preparations for next year’s enrollment.
Suttie spotlighted a partnership with the University of New England dental clinic in Portland: 27 district students were scheduled to be serviced the following day at the clinic. He also said the district and the local police department worked together to draft a school resource officer job description, and the department expected to post the position on its website within about a week.
On facilities, Building Committee member Donna Moutsatsos said new sump pumps were installed at the Adult Education building and Loranger Middle School after sewer-line cleanup. The high school has blackout shades on order with an estimated five-week delivery, and the district is purchasing two replacement vans to bring the fleet to six vehicles.
Technology plans include the district’s participation in the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) for grades 6–9, which Donna said will save district costs on devices though the district will still pay for cases, batteries and repairs; new view boards and Wi‑Fi improvements are planned for Jameson and Loranger.
