The RSU 23 School Board on June 15 adopted a five-year strategic plan and approved a three-year contract extension for Superintendent John Suttie during a brief meeting at Old Orchard Beach Town Hall.
Superintendent John Suttie presented the Proposed 20232028 Strategic Plan and thanked stakeholders and planning committee members for their work. After a period of questions and answers, Craig Evans moved to accept the plan and Donna Moutsatsos seconded; the board voted unanimously to approve the plan.
Suttie also reported that the districtschool budget passed and offered thanks to the community for its support. He reviewed recent district activity, including the Class of 2023 commencement events and recognition of retiring staff.
Under New Business the board approved a three-year extension to Superintendent John Sutties contract. Peter Flaherty moved the contract extension and Craig Evans seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved the nomination of new hires (motion by Donna Moutsatsos; second by Peter Flaherty), again voting unanimously. Earlier in the meeting Suttie announced that the agendas planned vote on a five-year copier and printer contract would be tabled pending more information from the Finance Committee.
Committee reports noted routine matters: Finance Committee chair Dave Boudreau said the committee had asked for more details on the copier contract, congratulated the Class of 2023 and mentioned the districts effort to secure a school-year SRO; Building Committee chair Peter Flaherty summarized planned summer facilities work; Technology and Curriculum committees had no substantive reports.
Student Representative Matthew Cantara-Bisson reported completion of the Paul Landry Wall mural, provided an update on spring high school sports and congratulated the Class of 2023 on graduation.
The board adjourned at 6:33 p.m. after brief closing remarks from members thanking staff and the community. No controversial votes or public comments were recorded during the meeting.
