RSU 23 board schedules June 13 budget referendum after budget meeting; superintendent praises local turnout

Superintendent John Suttie told the RSU 23 board on May 25 that all 18 articles in the district’s budget package passed at a May 16 budget meeting and that the official referendum will be held June 13 at the high school. He urged residents to vote in the referendum.
Suttie also reported that the district’s annual Senior Citizen Dinner earlier that evening drew approximately 100 attendees and thanked Nutrition Director Caroline Trinder and staff for organizing the event. He congratulated High School Librarian Gwyneth Maguire on being selected as a Maine MLTI Ambassador; Suttie said the State of Maine will pay Ms. Maguire’s salary while she serves in the two‑year ambassador role and RSU 23 is seeking a substitute librarian.
Student Representative Matthew Cantara‑Bisson updated the board on spring athletics and senior activities, saying track and field had four meets and the team was heading to the Western Maine Conference meet. He listed a series of senior events, including internship presentations, a senior trip, marching practices, senior breakfast and banquet, and noted Graduation for the Class of 2023 is scheduled for June 4.
The board took no additional budget action at the May 25 meeting; next procedural steps are the June 13 referendum and any post‑referendum administration the board must undertake depending on the outcome.
