The West Bath Select Board on March 19 voted to support a trial satellite food pantry to be hosted at town hall in partnership with the Bath Food Bank.
A board member said she had discussed the idea with Kimberly from the Bath Food Bank; the proposal would store nonperishable items in a closet at town hall and allow residents to request items by phone and pick them up through a back entrance for privacy. Members discussed staffing, hours and whether the pantry would duplicate existing services; supporters said a local option could reduce stigma and help residents who cannot get to the food bank.
A motion to support the satellite pantry was made, seconded and approved by the board. Members noted the arrangement is a trial and could be discontinued if it does not work; the town will coordinate with the Bath Food Bank on stocking and pickup procedures.
