AB 1915 (April) — self-certification of like‑for‑like restaurant equipment: Staff urged removal of the bill’s self‑certification provision for like‑for‑like equipment replacements, citing life‑safety concerns, fire‑protection complexities and the difficulty of ensuring equipment installed decades ago meets current code. The board moved to adopt staff’s recommendation to strike the self‑certification provision and that motion passed.
AB 1980 (Erica program) — apprenticeship access for women and underrepresented populations: Staff recommended support for codifying and funding the ERICA initiative to expand pre‑apprenticeship and apprenticeship opportunities for women, non‑binary people and other underrepresented groups. Board members expressed strong support and the board voted to back the bill.
AB 2287 — immunity for technology/tool use: The board discussed AB 2287, which sought to limit disciplinary action for the use of certain technologies. Staff and public commenters highlighted potential conflicts with other bills (for example, AB 1341) and with existing statutory consumer‑protection provisions. Commenters urged amendments to preserve disciplinary authority for willful or fraudulent conduct; the board did not adopt a new position at this meeting.
AB 2550 — data on women in construction: Staff recommended support for AB 2550, which would require the Employment Development Department to collect and report data on women’s participation and training capacity in construction. The board supported the measure to aid outreach and program planning.
