Madison County commissioners voted to retroactively cancel the bid selection for the Fairgrounds Event Center after staff issued an addendum that county attorneys and staff judged premature.
County staff said the addendum was issued because additional information, discussion and decisions were needed from the fair board. A commissioner moved to retroactively cancel the bid selection and asked that the minutes note the addendum should not have been sent without commission action.
Jeremiah (county staff) said the next steps are for staff to meet with the fair board and the fair foundation so all parties are in the same room and the project’s budget and funding responsibilities are transparent. Commissioners said clarifying who will pay and the project budget is the biggest outstanding issue before rebidding.
The board’s retroactive cancellation clears the way for further discussion with the fair board; staff will return with specific budget information and a recommended schedule for reissuing the bid if warranted.
