Yorktown Parks & Recreation opens pool passes, lists senior swim hours and summer events

Jim, the town’s parks and recreation supervisor, told the Senior Committee that pool passes are available weekdays at the Albert A. Capellini Culture and Community Center, room 122, with senior pricing and program details for the summer season. "If you're 70, 70 plus senior, you get your pool pass for free," Jim said. He added the town’s pool construction work at Shoke (Brian J. Slavin facility) is slated to finish June 20.
Jim listed senior swim hours and constraints: at Brian J. Slavin, seniors will have swim hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from June 30 through Aug. 13; Junior Lake will offer senior hours Aug. 3–14 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.). The July gap for Junior Lake reflects the town's full-day camp using the pool.
The recreation office is also accepting sign-ups for senior programs including dance and an intensive "Forever Fit" class, and Jim urged attendees to sign up while space remains. He also previewed a slate of community events: a concert tied to the American Revolution on June 20, a Lions concert series (dates through Aug. 23) and movie nights at the Jack DeVito field and Veterans Plaza (July 17, July 31 and Aug. 14).
Jim said an AAA defensive-driving class has more than 20 sign-ups and room for roughly 10 more; certification can reduce car-insurance premiums by about 15 percent.
No formal votes or budgetary approvals were taken at the meeting; attendees were directed to the town website and to Jim’s office for registration and further details.
