The Norwich Township Board of Trustees held a special meeting on July 16, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in Hilliard and voted unanimously to extend conditional offers of employment with the township’s fire department to two applicants.
Chairman Greg Young called the meeting to order and conducted roll call, which showed Greg Young (Chairman), Rick Tidd (Vice Chairman) and Sonny Cantrell present. Fire Chief Dave Baird and Assistant Fire Chief Jake Wells were listed as also present.
Trustee Sonny Cantrell moved to enter executive session pursuant to ORC 121.22(G)(1) — to consider the appointment or employment of a public employee — a motion seconded by Trustee Rick Tidd and approved unanimously (Motion #250716.01). The board returned from executive session at 5:50 p.m. after a motion by Trustee Rick Tidd, seconded by Chairman Greg Young (Motion #250716.02).
After returning to open session, the trustees voted to extend a conditional offer of employment to Elisha Smith. Trustee Rick Tidd moved the motion, which Chairman Greg Young seconded; the vote was Cantrell—Yes, Tidd—Yes, Young—Yes (Motion #250716.03). The conditional offer is explicitly contingent on the successful completion of a background check, a pre-employment drug screening and a physical examination.
The board then approved a conditional offer to Jonathan Jordan, following a motion by Trustee Sonny Cantrell and a second from Trustee Rick Tidd; that motion passed unanimously (Motion #250716.04). That offer carries the same contingencies: background check, drug screen and physical.
Trustee Rick Tidd moved to adjourn at 5:55 p.m.; Trustee Sonny Cantrell seconded and the motion passed unanimously (Motion #250716.05). The meeting minutes were recorded with the signed notation of Chairman Greg Young and Fiscal Officer Omar Tarazi.
The actions taken at the special meeting were limited to personnel matters and hiring decisions; no ordinances or budget actions were taken during this session.
