Village administrator warns county bypass options could affect local development interests

Village Administrator Joe Allen told the council Feb. 18 that Pickaway County and Montrose Group have developed three proposed options for a US23 bypass. Allen said he will meet with the consulting group and requested input from council on village priorities and potential objections.
Allen said locations of the proposed bypass options could negatively affect properties that have attracted development interest, including the sod farm and parcels owned by Crites. "He voiced concern with the fact that there has been interest in the sod farm and Crites properties for development that would be negatively impacted by the proposed bypass locations," the minutes state.
Council member Tom Ramsay suggested the village tell the county it does not view the three options as viable or cost-effective and to wait to see how the village’s planned US23 improvements affect traffic and congestion before choosing a bypass route.
No formal position or vote was recorded; Administrator Allen will meet with the Montrose Group to gather more information and bring any requested council feedback back to the county process.
