South Bloomfield council passes gym reimbursement ordinance, waives readings to appoint officer in emergency

At its Feb. 18 meeting the South Bloomfield Council approved Ordinance 2025-04 (gym reimbursement) on its second reading, passed Resolution 2025-05 appointing Morgan Wiseman as a full-time police officer as an emergency, and approved the first reading of permanent appropriations Ordinance 2025-05.
The Village of South Bloomfield council approved several formal actions at its Feb. 18 regular meeting, including passage of an ordinance to establish a gym reimbursement program and an emergency appointment to the police department.
Amber Murphy moved to approve the second reading of Ordinance 2025-04, creating a village gym reimbursement; Dena Cobb seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The ordinance was recorded as approved by the full council.
On a separate item, Tom Ramsay moved to approve the first reading of Resolution 2025-05 to appoint Morgan Wiseman as a full-time police officer; Woody Blanton seconded. The council then voted to waive the second and third readings and to pass the resolution as an emergency. Mayor Aaron Thomas swore in Officer Morgan Wiseman immediately following the vote.
Council also approved the first reading of Ordinance 2025-05, the village’s permanent appropriations for 2025, on a unanimous vote after a motion by Tom Ramsay and a second from Woody Blanton.
Other routine procedural motions carried as recorded in the meeting minutes, including waiving the reading of the Feb. 3, 2025 minutes and approving those minutes; motions to pay bills; and adjournment at 6:52 p.m.
Votes at the meeting were recorded by name on each motion. Where recorded, votes were unanimous among the seven council members present: Mayor Aaron Thomas, Ken Everts, Woody Blanton, Tom Ramsay, Dena Cobb, Lisa McDorman and Amber Murphy.
