Kettering council approves slate of park, facility and safety contracts and appropriations

Actions approved included: a $150,000 authorization to buy fitness equipment for city recreation facilities; a $70,000 contract for nonalcoholic beverages at the Fraze Pavilion; a roughly $300,000 contract with IATSE Local 66 for stagehand and technical services; and a $15,000 donation from the Rotary Club to install a fountain with lighting and a plaque at Lincoln Park. Council also approved a demolition grant program payment for 3936 Marshall Road of up to $50,000 to assist with demolishing a former restaurant and supporting redevelopment.
Council authorized other operational contracts — including a $50,000 stage-painting contract and seasonal custodial services estimated at $32,000 — and approved acceptance of a Pioneer Communications dispatch console (estimated $77,422) and an application for an Ohio EMS Priority One grant (amount not specified). The council approved a cost-sharing agreement with the Board of Education for adult crossing guards (city share ~50%).
A supplemental appropriations resolution totaling $1,985,000 passed to make funds available for items approved that evening, including $1.7 million in CDBG funds tied to the HUD lead hazard grant and smaller adjustments tied to contracts and donations.
Most items were presented by department staff and moved and adopted by roll call; council recorded votes for each action. Staff said many of the contracts support the upcoming Fraze Pavilion season and routine city facility maintenance.
