Kettering City Council voted April 14 to accept and expend a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Lead Hazard Reduction Program.
Planning and development staff briefed council that the grant includes roughly $1.3 million earmarked for lead remediation work and about $400,000 to assist residents with related remodeling and support needs. Staff said the grant will be expended over four years and is expected to assist approximately 40 homes.
"This resolution authorizes the city manager to accept and expend the Lead Hazard Reduction Program grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development," planning staff explained during the council discussion. Council members had an opportunity to ask implementation questions before approving the resolution by roll call.
Staff said the program will be administered through the Planning and Development Department and that eligibility, scheduling and contractor selection will be handled through the usual grant administration processes. Council approved associated supplemental appropriations later in the meeting to enable expenditure of the awarded funds.
The resolution passed with all voting members in favor.
