Council approves EDGE grant application to support Malot Industries expansion, officials say project will add 15 jobs

Kettering City Council on March 10 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for and accept a Montgomery County EDGE Grant not to exceed $300,000 to support Malot Industries’ planned expansion at 4901 Croftshire.
Economic development staff told council the project will add nearly 19,000 square feet to Malot’s facility, represents an investment of roughly $3 million and is expected to create 15 new jobs over four years and raise annual payroll by about $750,000. “This nearly $3 million project will allow the company to add 15 new jobs over the next four years, increasing their annual payroll to approximately $750,000,” staff said during the presentation.
The EDGE grant is reimbursable, meaning the company must complete eligible work and then receive reimbursement; the city’s resolution authorizes application and receipt of funds up to the $300,000 cap. Council approved the measure unanimously.
Staff said grant funds will offset capital expenses associated with the expansion, including a water main extension needed to provide sufficient flow for a fire suppression system; the grant distribution is contingent on Malot Industries completing the project and submitting documentation required by Montgomery County’s EDGE program.
Council members asked no substantive follow-up questions at the meeting; staff said they will return with any grant award paperwork and final contract terms if the EDGE award is made.
