Kettering council adopts 20-year Comprehensive Plan to guide growth

Kettering City Council unanimously adopted a new Comprehensive Plan on April 14, approving a 20-year roadmap the city says will guide land use, housing, transportation, parks, economic development and public infrastructure decisions.

Planning staff told council the document translates the community’s vision into policies municipal leaders will use to align future investments. “This Comprehensive Plan is our blueprint for growth as a long-range roadmap for guiding growth, investment and quality of life in Kettering,” planning staff stated during the council briefing.

Councilmembers emphasized the plan’s long development process and expressed support for using the research, charts and community input as a basis for future decisions. Councilmember Shane Sullivan and others thanked the planning department and residents who participated in the 18-month process.

The ordinance adopting the plan passed by roll call with all members voting yes. Staff said the plan will inform decisions on zoning, neighborhood improvements and capital investments and will be available for review as projects and policy items come before council.

Next steps include making the plan materials available to boards, commissions and staff and beginning implementation conversations in forthcoming workshops and hearings. The council indicated it will revisit specific policy actions and associated funding as separate decisions when necessary.
