Tippecanoe County commissioners approve rezonings, contracts and grants; ordinances pass unanimously

At its June 1 meeting the Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners approved two rezonings, multiple highway and professional-services agreements, vendor contracts for Community Corrections, a parking management contract authorization and several grant acceptances, including an $800,000 award to support the Buck Creek Regional Sewer District.
The Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners on June 1 approved a slate of routine business and project contracts, including two rezonings, highway construction services and several grant awards.
President Tracy A. Brown opened the meeting; the board first approved minutes from May 18 and payroll and accounts payable for the reporting period. The board then heard two rezone petitions from the Area Plan Commission. Director Ryan O'Gara described the requested zoning changes; attorney Kevin Riley said the EH Millbrook petitioner is shifting away from townhomes to single-family detached lots "due to the lack of interest in the townhome product." Auditor Jennifer Weston recorded 3–0 votes on both ordinances and Ordinances 2026-15-CM and 2026-16-CM passed.
Highway Director Stewart Kline presented two professional-service agreements: United Consulting for final design of Bridge #6228 (North River Road over Happy Hollow Ditch) with design services not to exceed $239,200, and American Structure Point for construction inspection services not to exceed $694,100. Both agreements were approved.
Community Corrections Director Kory George presented two vendor contracts to provide phone/video access and tablet/messaging services at the corrections facility. When Commissioner Thomas P. Murtaugh asked whether participants pay fees, George confirmed participants pay the fees and Community Corrections receives a commission on usage; the contracts were approved.
Other approved items included a utility repayment agreement with the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette, under which the Humane Society will repay the county $5,250 per month through December 2027, and Resolution 2026-14-CM authorizing purchase through SourceWell with T2 Systems for parking management (the parking garage fund will cover Year 1 costs of $159,075.29 and smaller amounts in Years 2–3).
The board also approved a second amendment to the engineering agreement for the Buck Creek–Colburn wastewater project related to additional force-main construction management work and granted several perpetual sewer utility and construction easements for specified parcel payments. Separately, the commissioners accepted an $800,000 grant from the Indiana Finance Authority to support construction of the Buck Creek Regional Sewer District.
The meeting concluded after a presentation of the Tippecanoe Regional Opioid Settlement Community Committee's annual report and routine personnel and public-comment items. President Brown adjourned the meeting without further action.
