Council approves cost-sharing agreement to place single SRO at two private high schools

Kettering City Council on Dec. 2 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into cost-sharing agreements with two private high schools to assign one school resource officer (SRO) to both campuses.
The resolution, introduced by council and moved and seconded during the meeting, passed on a roll-call vote with all recorded members voting yes.
Chief Przman of the police department told council the department supports a permanent SRO for the campuses and that the proposed contract mirrors the city’s existing arrangement with public schools: the schools would cover 70% of the officer’s salary and the city would cover 30%.
"Several weeks ago, we were approached by Alter and St. Charles asking about the possibility of an SRO being permanently assigned to that campus," Chief Przman said. "The police department looked into this and felt it would be a benefit to both the schools and to the city itself."
Council conducted a roll-call vote after discussion; Mrs. Fischer, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Scott, Mr. Duval, Mr. Sith and the mayor each recorded a yes vote. The resolution authorizes the city manager to finalize the cost-sharing agreements with the schools as requested by the police department.
Next steps: the agreements will be executed by the city manager and the police department will implement the assignment once contracts are finalized. The resolution does not specify an effective date for the officer’s placement.
