Robbins to renovate village hall after $1 million grant; closure dates set

Mayor Darren E. Bryant said the village received a $1,000,000 grant to renovate Robbins’ village hall and that the building will close to the public Dec. 21–22 and Dec. 27–29 for preparations, reopening on Jan. 3. During the work the water department will operate from the Robbins Police Department and other departments from the Community Center, the mayor said.
The renovation follows a broader capital plan the mayor outlined, including a $300,000 bid for Community Center repairs, a planned $2 million streetlight RFP and a $3 million Clair Boulevard renovation. Bryant also said the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) phase one work near Woodlawn Street is nearly complete and that the village plans street repaving in spring for Kostner, Keystone, Monticello and Nelson.
The mayor noted demolition activity in the village’s blight program: “we’ve torn down over 40 structures out of the 160 that’s needed,” a count he presented as progress toward increasing property values and public safety. Village Administrator Shuntai Sykes briefed the board on anticipated disruptions during renovations and on ongoing grant compliance and audit coordination.
The village asked residents to use the online E-pay option to pay water bills while the village hall is closed. Officials did not identify the grant source in the minutes. The board did not take a formal vote on the renovation plan during this meeting; next procedural steps described were bidding and RFP issuance for related projects, with procurement timelines to be set by staff.
