Robbins trustees approve legal engagement, property sale and hear water-rate concerns

At the Sept. 23 meeting the Village of Robbins board approved three routine items and responded to multiple public comments about water and permits.
Motions approved: Trustee Thomas Harper moved and Trustee Jeanneen Holmes seconded approval of the Sept. 9 regular minutes; later the board approved an Engagement Agreement with Vasselli Law, LLC (moved by Trustee David R. Dyson; seconded by Trustee Thomas Harper) and an Adjacent Property Purchase and Sell Agreement (moved by Trustee Jeanneen Holmes; seconded by Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr). Roll-call ayes for these votes were recorded as Trustees Dyson, Maxey, Harper, Kelly, Holmes and Collier; each motion "carried," according to the minutes.
Public comment: Multiple residents spoke during the citizens-comment period. Ms. Scott said a recent permit she purchased felt too expensive and asked how the fee was calculated and whether drainage will be added on 134th Pl/Central Park. Ms. Sykes asked about a proposed October increase in water rates and whether the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) or the village pays for watering at 139th & Kedzie; she also raised concern for seniors if rates rise. Tiffany Robinson reported "a breach of her personal data" and asked how personnel records are secured. Bernard Ward asked whether the proposed TOD zoning would cover the entire village and sought details about the Vasselli agreement and the adjacent-property sale.
Staff reports and next steps: Trustee Michael Collier announced a town-hall meeting to discuss water rates; the mayor and staff later advised that key staff availability will affect scheduling. VA Korie Dickson reported continuing grant-writing work and said Community Outreach staff applied for a $25,000 South Suburban Rise beautification grant for an MWRD project, with awards expected in October.
