Mayor Darren E. Bryant told trustees that regional transit authority representatives reviewed a timetable for transit-oriented development zoning and will attend two upcoming board meetings as they seek adoption of a zoning-code ordinance. "The public hearing will be at 5pm on the 28th," the mayor said, adding that building codes must be updated to the ICC codes before adoption can proceed.
The RTA presentation prompted the board to set a public hearing for Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. so residents can comment on proposed changes to the zoning ordinance. Mayor Bryant said the RTA will be present at the Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 meetings as part of the adoption process.
Trustees did not vote on the ordinance during the Sept. 23 meeting; rather, the board recorded the timeline and the schedule for future consideration. Trustee Michael Collier and other trustees asked staff to confirm availability of key personnel before scheduling committee or town-hall meetings tied to planning and rates.
The mayor and staff also noted that updating the local building code to the International Code Council (ICC) model is part of the implementation steps. The board did not provide a draft ordinance in this meeting; the public hearing will be the first occasion for formal public input recorded on the ordinance's text.
Next steps: the RTA will present at the Oct. 14 meeting and return Oct. 28, when trustees have set a 5 p.m. public hearing; the board may consider ordinance introduction or adoption after public comment and completion of required code updates.
