Robbins trustees swear in two planning commissioners, approve street closure and accept May treasurer’s report

The Village of Robbins Board of Trustees on June 10 approved several routine actions and heard a range of resident concerns.

Trustees voted to swear in Planning and Zoning Commissioners Warren Madkins and Bernard Ward after Trustee Ernest Maxey moved the appointments and Trustees Jeanneen Holmes and Chanel Kelly seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all present voting aye (Dyson, Maxey, Harper, Kelly, Holmes, Collier). Ylondia Hudson was noted as unable to attend the meeting.

Trustees also approved a street closure for a Backyard picnic celebrating Juneteenth hosted by Wm. Leonard Library on Thursday, June 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The motion to approve the street closure was moved by Trustee Ernest Maxey, seconded by Trustee Chanel Kelly, and carried on a roll-call vote (Dyson, Maxey, Harper, Kelly, Holmes, Collier).

During the meeting the board approved the treasurer's report for May, which showed a balance or reported amount of $465,697.46. That motion was moved by Trustee Michael Collier and seconded by Trustee David R. Dyson and passed on a roll-call vote with all trustees voting aye.

In public comment, residents raised several neighborhood concerns: whether a permit is required for a fence (Ms. Ratliff); a tree that fell and crushed a car (Ms. Fulson); dumping at 141st and Hamlin and praise for public works cleanup (Mr. Ward); and maintenance questions about the water park, including missing garbage cans, grass cutting and whether cameras might be installed (Nate Ward). Trustees and staff acknowledged the concerns and noted ongoing cleanup efforts by public works.

The board moved into executive session under Section 2(c)(5) to discuss whether land should be purchased or leased by the public body, then reconvened and adjourned at 9:45 p.m.

All board votes reported in the meeting minutes were unanimous among trustees present unless otherwise noted.
