Annie Hudson Knight, a board member and secretary of the Onyx Fine Arts Collective and Gallery, addressed the council about the group's third exhibition in Issaquah, "Eyewitness to Greatness, the joys of black arts creativity," which features 14 artists and 24 works on display at Blakeley Hall. Knight described the collective's 21-year history supporting African-American artists and said the group has exhibited more than 800 artists over its history.
The proclamation emphasized Juneteenth as both a celebration of emancipation and a reminder of ongoing work toward equity, economic opportunity and educational access. Council and gallery representatives paused for a photograph and invited residents to attend related events at Blakeley Hall.
