Trustee Fotoplos presented bids from JMN Contracting and Fuxa Enterprises, saying the total offers including contingency amounts were $24,582 for JMN and $25,450 for Fuxa. Fotoplos told the board that if contractors needed to extend concrete columns deeper than in the original bid, the out-of-area bidder (JMN Contracting) would face an additional mobilization charge of $5,405, a cost the board would have to absorb again if follow-up mobilization were required. Fotoplos said Fuxa Enterprises, a local Cedar Creek company, would not trigger that extra mobilization expense and recommended the board choose the local firm.
Both companies told the board the work could be completed before Jan. 1, 2025, would likely take about a week, and that any required closure would affect only one lane. After Fotoplos’s recommendation, Trustee Richardson moved to award the bid to Fuxa Enterprises; Trustee Prescott seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Fuxa—abstain; Fotoplos—aye; Prescott—aye; Bruckner—aye; Richardson—aye, resulting in approval of the award.
Fotoplos said he will notify the involved parties and inform JEO of the decision. With no further business, the board adjourned at 4:24 p.m. The meeting summary was later certified by Municipal Clerk/Treasurer Roxanne Mrasek.
The award sets the contract in motion; the trustees did not provide a contract number or detailed scope in the minutes. The board expects the work to occur before Jan. 1, 2025, and said any lane closures would be limited.
