EDA hears updates on old city hall, fire station sale and solar‑on‑landfill options

On the sale of an old fire station and adjacent park property, staff said they are awaiting a counteroffer and that a closed session for council review is scheduled for July 14. Staff said they hope to have a report and a signed development agreement by the August EDA meeting.
On potential solar development for a landfill parcel, staff reported outreach to Xcel Energy and said Xcel generally prefers large privately owned projects with a few hundred acres; the city parcel of about 47 acres is smaller than typical Xcel projects, meaning alternative business models (community solar or private developer ownership) may be required for a solar project.
Staff also noted the city was featured in Business View magazine and reminded members of upcoming EDA meeting dates (August 18 and October 20).
No formal votes were taken on these agenda items at the meeting; staff will follow up with memos and reports as items advance.
