Council approves staffing restructure, pays for diving board and authorizes surplus vehicle sales

The Maumelle City Council adopted a package of budget amendments on Aug. 4 that shift duties and reallocate existing funds rather than increase the overall budget.
Resolution 2025-31 amends the 2025 general fund budget to restructure personnel: some economic‑development duties will move into planning and a new community engagement role will be created. Council members and staff said those changes will be funded in part by eliminating the vacant city engineer position, which had received no qualified applicants.
Chair commented that the change "isn't an increase to the budget, just a shifting," and that the administration will likely rename planning to the Department of Planning and Economic Development to capture the merged duties.
Council also adopted Resolution 2025-32 to replenish line items and cover the purchase of a diving board estimated at about $7,500, and passed Resolution 2025-33 authorizing the sale of three surplus vehicles. Both motions passed by voice vote.
Staff said the restructuring and equipment purchases are planned to be implemented administratively and that follow‑up appropriation or departmental renaming will be presented as needed during the regular budget process.
