Maumelle — The Maumelle Planning Commission voted May 22 to forward a do-pass recommendation to Maumelle City Council for a conditional use permit to allow an infant daycare, Ash’s Infant World, in suite 106 at 301 Milwood.
Staff told the commission the applicant provided required documentation to staff and that letters from DHS and DCFS had been submitted. "The staff approves of this with no conditions," staff said, and recommended a do-pass recommendation to city council. Commissioners clarified that zoning action is needed to allow the state licensing process to proceed and that any final certificate of occupancy will require building and fire inspections.
During questioning, a commissioner asked whether city staff would await confirmation from human services before issuing permits; staff said the zoning action enables the applicant to move forward with the state review but that building permits, fire approval and a final certificate of occupancy will still be required before opening.
Why it matters: Zoning approval would allow the applicant to pursue state daycare licensing and required city permits, enabling a new infant daycare operation in a PCD zone at a location where daycares have previously operated.
Next steps: The commission’s do-pass recommendation will be considered by Maumelle City Council; the applicant must still complete the state and city permitting processes before operating.
