The Ceresco Village Board on May 14 authorized contractor Vrba to excavate and repair a collapsed sewer main on Elm Street after staff described a damaged cast‑iron section discovered during inspections.
Brian Roland told trustees that both ends of the 2024 water‑main improvement project are complete and the remaining work was to tie in new valves. During inspection of the Elm Street sewer the crew found a collapsed portion of pipe close to 224 W Elm; a crawler camera shows roughly a 10‑foot section is damaged and the private house service remains plugged near a corner of the dwelling, preventing a plumber from clearing the line.
Roland said Right Way Plumbing has visited the property five times over 22 years and that the plugged service predates recent Village work. He said the homeowner would be responsible for repairs to the house sewer service, while the Village would pay to repair the public sewer main.
Board member Burklund moved to authorize Vrba to begin excavation and determine the steps necessary to repair the collapse at 224 W Elm; Chair Scott Peterson seconded. The motion carried unanimously: Burklund, Peterson, Custer, Ruble and Johnson voted yes.
The board’s action authorizes excavation to assess and repair the public main; specific timelines and a construction start date were not specified at the meeting. Roland indicated that further field work by Vrba will determine the final scope and cost estimates for the public‑main repairs.
