City awards bids for water‑main replacement and K‑61 resurfacing

City Engineer Evan Patterson said the water‑main project will replace about 1.5 miles of aging 6‑inch pipe (sections built as early as the 1920s) in a targeted neighborhood with a low bid of $1,161,317.25. Patterson said the bid was competitive and below the engineer’s estimate; staff recommended awarding the contract and authorizing the mayor to sign the notice of award.
Public Works Director Cecil Wible presented the K‑61 resurfacing project (US‑50 to 17th Avenue). APAC Kansas submitted the lone timely bid at $437,617.41 and staff recommended awarding the contract.
Council approved both awards and authorized staff to issue notices of award and proceed with project administration. Work on the water‑main project was expected to begin midsummer with a substantial completion date of April 30, 2027; K‑61 resurfacing timing will follow contractor scheduling and KDOC/traffic control requirements.
