Planning consultant: Preston rezoning and highway-commercial rules under review

The Village Board of Cortland heard an update July 10 from Planning and Zoning consultant Bobbi Pettit of Five Rule about ongoing zoning work and next steps on a rezoning application.
Pettit said the Planning & Zoning Commission continues to refine highway commercial regulations and recently tested the draft rules against an earlier Preston zoning permit that P&Z received almost a year ago. The commission found questions about road standards that remain unresolved and identified at least one amendment they want to make to the village's subdivision regulations.
Five Rule is under quarterly contract; Pettit told the board that at the end of the next quarter she will review hours billed and return with a proposed contract for the following year. Pettit also said her firm can assist with project development and seeking outside funding for eligible projects. Goforth indicated he will follow up with Pettit to discuss project-development and funding details.
The P&Z commission planned to meet again July 25 and aims to set a public hearing date for the Preston rezoning after resolving road-related questions. The board asked that the public hearing date be scheduled so the community has notice once commission recommendations are complete.
