Maumelle council approves several budget amendments and grant application; chamber contract tabled

Maumelle — The Maumelle City Council voted July 7 to approve several budget adjustments and to authorize a grant application for a joint training facility while tabling the chamber contract until a future meeting.
The council adopted Resolution 2025-24 to amend the 2025 general fund and appropriate $160,000 for Gateway Park undercut and fill work. "This anticipates about $80,000 contingency funds there," Mayor said in response to Council Member Gardner's question about cost overruns; the mayor and staff said recent field reports indicate the undercut may be closer to 3,500 cubic yards rather than the originally estimated 4,000.
Council also adopted Resolution 2025-25 authorizing the mayor to apply for an Arkansas Community Assistance Grant to support construction of a joint police and fire training facility. Fire Chief Bob Bever said the grant would allow the department to "put that classroom back in" and provide contingency funding. The measure passed on a voice vote.
Two additional budget resolutions passed by voice vote. Resolution 2025-26 amended the general fund to allow an incoming hire to start earlier and cover payout of accrued leave for a retiring employee; Resolution 2025-27 reallocated small audit savings to cover council training, clerk's office needs and ordinance codification costs. The mayor noted the city completed its audit filing earlier in the year and is reallocating remaining funds rather than increasing net spending.
On a separate item, the council voted to table Resolution 2025-23—the Monl Area Chamber of Commerce contract—because the chamber's executive director was not present to provide the customary report. The council will take up the item at its next meeting.
What happens next: Ordinances 11449, regarding supplemental code provisions, and ordinances 11459, 1146 and 1147 covering annexation, land-use and rezoning for the Stony Mountain subdivision, were on second reading and scheduled for third reading at the next council meeting. No binding decisions were taken on those ordinances at this session.
