Library leaders ask Ceresco board for full-time librarian as circulation and programs grow

Library Board representatives presented data to the Village Board on April 15 and requested a full-time librarian position with benefits to support expanded hours and programming.
Jodi Sousek and Patty Kettelhut said library circulation rose 26% (42% including ebooks), patronage increased 21.6%, and programs rose from 37 to 112 events year over year. The library has received a $1,000 Summer Intern grant and an additional intern grant for the coming summer. Sousek said the library plans to increase weekly open hours from 24 to 36–40 and to add programs targeted to seniors, men’s programming and youth story times; the librarian would also help with grant writing for the village and library.
Chair Scott Peterson asked for a proposed budget for the change; Clerk Joan Lindgren agreed to work with Sousek on the fiscal year 2025–26 budget. No formal board action to hire or fund the position was taken at the meeting.
What happens next: Library and Clerk to prepare a proposed budget and bring cost details to the Board for consideration during the next budget cycle.
