The Cedarville City Council approved routine business and heard department updates at its March 18 regular meeting.
Alderman Johnson moved and Alderman Cook seconded approval of the February regular meeting minutes and the Feb. 24 special meeting minutes; the motion passed 4-0. Treasurer Sandra Cook presented February account balances and reviewed the March financial report; Alderman Johnson moved and Alderman Saddler seconded approval of the March financial report, which passed 4-0.
Under unfinished business Mayor Deborah Pinkerton proposed per-diem meal limits for continuing-education travel when the program does not provide meals: $10 for breakfast, $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner for both in-state and out-of-state travel. Alderman Cook moved to accept Mayor Pinkerton’s proposal and have an ordinance presented at the April meeting; Alderman Johnson seconded the motion, which passed 4-0.
Department heads reported operational items. Grounds Supervisor Kenny Brenton said crews have been grading and gravelling roads, trimming overhanging brush, installing two culverts and doing equipment maintenance. Police Chief Ken Howard summarized monthly activity and introduced the department’s need for a new evidence management system; two vendor quotes were presented and Chief Howard said more information will be brought to the April meeting. Fire Chief Cody Cooper reported department responses (including one grass fire, two structure fires assisting District 4, one smoke alarm call and 11 medical calls), said all members completed 24 hours of Fire Academy training plus eight hours of medical training, and requested purchase of eight sections of wildland fire hose from Feld Fire Equipment at a cost of $559.60 with free shipping.
During announcements Mayor Pinkerton said bids were opened for the Cedarville Senior Center and that Covenant Commercial Construction submitted the low bid of $1,270,625.00; she said a groundbreaking will follow formal acceptance of a bid. Mayor Pinkerton also said the city has submitted a Rural Park Grant, a 50/50 matching application to update park mulch and create a toddler area, and that Armer Electric plans to perform electrical work in the park during the week of spring break. She announced a chili cook-off at the Cedarville Masonic Lodge on March 22 and described the March 15 park car show as successful.
In public comment Tim Breshears of 8464 Willow Creek urged the council to pay to have a grader delivered and put into service so the city can end the lease payment on its current grader; Alderman Saddler said he is voluntarily repairing the grader so it can be driven to city grounds rather than paying $2,800 for delivery, which he said saves the city money but will take time to complete.
With no further business Alderman Cook moved and Alderman Johnson seconded a motion to adjourn; the motion passed 4-0.
