Cedarville council OKs mayor’s application for FUN Park grant, reviews $99,500 site plan

Mayor Deborah Pinkerton told the Cedarville City Council on Aug. 20 that she would seek a Fun Park grant to fund planned playground and park improvements, and the council voted 3-0 to approve Resolution #2024-08-20-01 authorizing the application.

The grant application is supported by a site plan and an opinion of probable costs prepared by Mickle Griffin. The estimate lists a total probable project cost of $99,488.48, including $44,000 for playground and amenities, $30,000 for lighting and roughly $10,659.48 for engineering (12% of construction costs). Mayor Pinkerton said WAPDD encouraged the city to reapply after the city was denied last year because of a change in qualifications.

The council discussed a noted concern about the proposed lighting. “There’s an item in the plan about lighting that needs clarification,” Alderman Breshears said; Mayor Pinkerton said she would raise that concern with the project agent. The engineering letter from Mickle Griffin, signed by Nicholas J. Griffin, P.E., was included with the meeting packet; the letter states the firm will provide engineering services if the project receives funding.

The resolution authorizing the mayor to apply was moved by Alderman Saddler, seconded by Alderman Johnson and approved 3-0. The meeting packet included a detailed site exhibit and a line-item cost estimate that shows grading, benches, a putting green and a paved path among the planned elements.

Next steps: the mayor will proceed with the grant application and follow up with the engineer about the lighting details; the council did not take additional funding or construction actions at the meeting.
