The Pocahontas School Board on Dec. 16 approved a one-time $500 payment to each certified and classified employee and amended a retirement-notice policy to provide a $400 stipend for employees who submit notice by Feb. 1. The resolution was presented as budgeted and supported by both certified and classified PBC groups; both items passed 5–0.
Board members asked about special circumstances such as medical retirements and whether those employees would be eligible; administrators said the current language would not extend the $400 for retirements after Feb. 1 but the board could revisit the policy to define catastrophic or medical exceptions. The board also approved a mirrored policy (10.46) so classified staff receive the same retirement-notice stipend terms as certified staff.
