The Valley View School District 365U board on June 15 presented a resolution honoring Superintendent Dr. Keith Wood as he prepares to retire, then spent significant time recognizing student academic and athletic achievements from across the district.
Board President Steve Quigley read a formal resolution that lauded Dr. Wood’s 33-year educational career, his doctorate and leadership in the district and community, and his work with local and national education groups. The board presented a commemorative jacket and other gifts; Dr. Wood thanked the board and said he would reserve fuller remarks for his superintendent update later in the meeting.
The meeting included extended recognitions of students and coaches. Bowling Brook High School’s valedictorian, Rachel (identified in the meeting as Rachel Deil), described choosing BYU and credited chemistry teacher Miss Noga with inspiring her interest in biochemistry and microbiology. Coaches and administrators introduced multiple state qualifiers and season standouts: Bowling Brook badminton qualifiers (including Delena Roland and the top doubles team Delilah Pantoa and Leia Theu), mathletes who earned the district championship, and a number of track-and-field qualifiers from Jane Adams, Humphrey, AVM and Romeoville High School. Coaches highlighted individual seasons — including junior Edmund Anka’s state finals performance — and thanked families and staff for support.
The recognitions were followed by the board’s regular business. Dr. Wood closed his final superintendent update with reflections on his career, gratitude to staff and confidence in incoming superintendent Dr. Terresa Pollson.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July; several informational items from tonight — including diesel fuel contract details and policy updates — will be returned for action at a later date.
