Commissioners press enforcement: drainage, beaver control and outreach on junk vehicles

Commissioners used the enforcement portion of the June 16 meeting to review local problems affecting wetlands and neighborhood quality, including a drainage complaint at 26 Leesville Road, coordination on beaver control with public works, and outreach to owners of long‑standing junk vehicles.

Property owners Charles and Kathy Grillo raised a drainage concern on Leesville Road; commissioners said they would follow up with Don in public works to determine what remedial work is needed before the commission can take enforcement action.

On beaver control, commissioners reported that beavers had been removed from the problem area but that a beaver deceiver installation was awaiting guardrail work by public works. Don, the public works contact discussed in the meeting, said guardroads/guardrails needed to be completed first before the deceiver could be placed.

Commissioners also discussed zoning outreach to address junk and abandoned vehicles. "I sent out 40 letters to people with junk vehicles," a commission member said, reporting that at least one resident sold multiple cars after outreach and that some abandoned but registered vehicles continue to create enforcement and taxation complications. The commission noted that inconsistent out‑of‑state registration follow‑up by the state can complicate local enforcement efforts.

The commission did not make new enforcement orders at the meeting but directed staff to continue inspections and the outreach process; further action will depend on inspection results and any necessary coordination with public works.
