The Cherokee Village City Council voted to appoint Kelly Harrison to the Planning & Zoning Commission on Thursday. Council Member Martin moved the appointment; Council Member Smith seconded. A roll-call vote recorded R. Tatum, Martin, Smith, J. Tatum and Rowland as voting yes, Council Member Harrison abstained, and Mayor Steven R. Rose voted yes; the motion passed with six yes and one abstention.
Council members discussed residency requirements for commission membership earlier in the meeting and noted an applicant may need to live in a rental property temporarily before qualifying as a resident of Cherokee Village. The council debated eligibility requirements during a working meeting and reviewed paperwork before taking the appointment vote.
Separately, Council Member Harrison addressed an accusation raised at a prior working meeting concerning payments of sales and use tax tied to properties in which she has an interest; she told the council those properties are paid to date. No formal follow-up action on that accusation was recorded in the minutes.
