Lee County pursues options for Lee Center school and reallocates Strong Communities grant funds to Dixon

County staff reported ongoing efforts to find a developer for the Lee Center school and said they will issue an RFP for demolition and potential repurposing to green space if redevelopment is not feasible.
Jeremy told the committee the county has engaged with local stakeholders but has struggled to secure a developer willing to take on redevelopment or demolition of the existing building. "We're going to put out an RFP for demolition and repurposing to green space for that site," he said.
Jeremy also updated the committee on the Strong Communities grant closeout. The county had initially planned $75,000 for demolition work in the city of Dixon; because Dixon removed five homes under the program and had additional needs, the county will reallocate funds so Dixon will use about $104,000 of the grant. Jeremy said other nearby cities — Amboy, Ashton, Franklin Grove and Harmon — were encouraged to apply directly in the next round rather than have the county serve as grantee.
The update was informational; staff said the county will continue to coordinate with municipal partners and did not propose a formal county-funded redevelopment plan at the meeting.
