Raleigh Transit Authority celebrates ridership gains, seeks council sign‑off on FY27 work plan

The Raleigh Transit Authority presented its FY26 annual report and FY27 work plan to council on June 16 and asked council to accept the report. Chair Jen Truman highlighted a year of ridership growth and network improvements: ridership is roughly 1 million trips higher than 2019 levels, and the system now operates more than 137 miles of frequent (15‑minute or better) service. The authority also added dozens of bus shelters in a recent funding set and reported continued outreach and community engagement.
Truman told council the authority’s priorities for FY27 include safety for riders and operators, clarifying the authority’s role in policy reviews, and performance monitoring. The authority also cited expanded shelter installation (49 new shelters in a recent set), pilot technology work and countywide coordination for ADA and paratransit services.
Council asked how the authority should surface recommendations and what communications would be appropriate for policy items; the authority said it would return with bylaws and clarifying language to define when and how it brings recommendations to council. Council accepted the annual report and approved the FY27 work plan.
