Hancock County board approves permits, road contract, purchases and appointments

At its May 19 meeting in Carthage, the Hancock County Board approved a slate of permits, contracts, purchases and appointments.
The board accepted WL Miller as the lowest bidder for Walker Township road work after a motion by Alex Blythe and second by Tom Rodgers; members present voted yes. The board approved Hamilton Sun, LLC’s building permit on a roll-call vote: Blythe, Turner, Harrison, Boyles, Lambert and Lucie voted no; Mark Hanson, Harry Douglas, Michelle Merritt, Tom Rodgers, Dennis Castlebury, Mark Menn, Steve Finney and Wayne Bollin voted yes.
The board approved a monetary gift of $8,000 to Hancock County Special Recreation for the Special Olympics and authorized $75,000 from the County Court Fund for courtroom cabling; both items passed by unanimous roll-call vote of members present. The board also voted to purchase a 2014 Ford F550 ambulance from the City of Lucas for $65,000; the health committee had discussed buying two ambulances, but the other seller would not accept a trade, so the county purchased one.
Ms. Merritt moved to appoint George Salrin and Rod Bruns to the Dallas Rural Water District and to appoint Holly Wilde-Tillman as the local registrar; Mr. Boyles seconded and all members present voted in favor.
These actions were taken as routine board business following the meeting’s consent agenda and a public hearing on the solar ordinance.
