The Lacy City Council on June 16 approved the Commission on Equity's updated 2026 work plan after a presentation by commission staff.
Shannon said the plan largely preserves previously discussed priorities and aligns with the city's adopted diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging strategic plan. The commission recommended converting the draft into the final 2026 work plan and made several administrative refinements, including adjustments to timeline and sequencing of some items.
Key elements include exploring engagement with North Thirstston Public Schools, holding two focus groups in Q3 and Q4 (one with Asian Pacific Islander community members and one with Hispanic community members), and continuing the commission's role in reviewing community and cultural grant applications (the council previously allocated $25,000 for those grants). Shannon said the commission will provide approved meeting notes and reports back to council so elected officials can review feedback from listening sessions.
Council members expressed a preference for written reports from the commission and advised against routinely having a council member sit in on commission meetings to preserve advisory dynamics. The council approved the plan unanimously.
