Cass County Board certifies June 2 primary canvass, records 16.84% turnout

The Cass County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 2026-18 at a special meeting June 9, certifying the results of the June 2, 2026 primary election. The canvass shows 8,980 registered voters and 1,512 ballots cast, a 16.84% turnout, and states that board members identified no obvious clerical errors during the canvass.

The canvass lists the certified primary nominees by party for federal contests: Republican Ashley Hinson and Democrat Josh Turek in the U.S. Senate column, and Republican Zach Nunn and Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott for U.S. House District 3. The resolution also records state and county primary winners as listed in the canvass, including Mark T. O'Brien for Supervisor District 2 and Wendy Richter for Supervisor District 3, and countywide offices such as County Treasurer Tracey J. Marshall, County Recorder Mary Ward and County Attorney Vanessa Strazdas.

Chairman Steve Baier presided over the canvass adoption; the board’s roll-call on the resolution is noted in the minutes with 'A' (aye) recorded for Baier, Pettinger, Green, Richter and O’Brien. The resolution is dated and signed June 9, 2026, by Chairman Steve Baier and attested by Auditor Kathy Somers.

The board also filed the County Auditor’s Certification of the Post-Election Audit of the June 2 primary. No additional clerical errors or discrepancies are recorded in the meeting minutes. The board adjourned at 9:37 a.m.
